About Dr. Lourdes Valdés | Anxiety Psychologist in Katy, TX

Dr. Lourdes Valdés, bilingual psychologist in Katy, TX

Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Lourdes Valdés, a licensed anxiety psychologist in Katy, TX with nearly 30 years of clinical experience. While my primary clinical focus is helping children and adolescents overcome overwhelming worries, fears, and stress, I also specialize in working with adults seeking lasting relief from anxiety. Helping people overcome anxiety is work I genuinely enjoy. Whether I’m working with a young child, a teenager, or an adult, meaningful change happens when people feel understood, supported, and equipped with practical tools that work.

I use both behavioral and cognitive strategies backed by solid research, applied with warmth, empathy, and compassion. My therapeutic approach is active and collaborative, focused entirely on helping you or your child solve the real-world concerns you are facing right now.

Specialized Anxiety & Evidence-Based Treatments

As a specialist in anxiety disorders, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I offer several internationally recognized, evidence-based modalities to help families and individuals overcome distinct hurdles:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): As a trained cognitive behavioral therapist, I utilize CBT as a primary, evidence-based framework for treating anxiety. CBT is internationally recognized as one of the most effective, scientifically proven treatments for anxiety disorders. By helping children, teens, and adults identify, understand, and safely reshape the connection between their thoughts, physical anxiety symptoms, and behaviors, CBT provides practical, lifelong tools to manage worries and reclaim control.
  • SPACE Treatment: I am a trained provider of Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. This innovative, family-focused program allows me to work directly with parents to shift family accommodations and support their child toward lasting independence from anxiety.
  • UCLA PEERS® Program: Over the years, I’ve led specialized social skills groups for school-aged children and middle schoolers. I am certified in this world-renowned curriculum, helping teens learn real-world social skills while parents learn to act as effective social coaches.
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART): I am trained in ART, a gentle and innovative evidence-based method that offers rapid, effective relief from the heavy effects of trauma, stress, and anxiety.

Along with panic and anxiety, I treat a comprehensive range of related conditions, including OCD, phobias, ADHD, early childhood feeding challenges, and elimination disorders.

Culturally Sensitive & Bilingual Care

I am deeply committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for individuals and families of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and identities.

I am equally fluent in English and Spanish. I firmly believe that the deepest emotional healing happens when you can express yourself in the language closest to your heart, and I proudly offer fully bilingual mental health care to our diverse community.

(Please note: My practice provides scientifically grounded, affirming care. I do not support or engage in conversion therapy, as it has been proven deeply harmful and lacks scientific foundation).

Education & Professional Background

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Clinical Psychology: University of Pittsburgh, with graduate research focused on childhood behavior disorders, toddlers’ development of self, and correlates of postpartum depression.
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology: Completed specialized training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, focusing on children navigating concurrent medical and psychological concerns.
  • PSYPACT® Certified: I hold an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT). This allows me to legally offer secure telehealth services to clients residing in or visiting any of the many PSYPACT® participating states.
  • Leadership & Memberships: I am proud to serve on the professional advisory board of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association Southern Region (ADDA-SR). I maintain active memberships in the American Psychological Association, the Society of Pediatric Psychology, the Texas Psychological Association, and the Houston Psychological Association.

Meet Moby

Some of the best therapy partners have four paws.

Moby is a gentle Bernedoodle who occasionally joins therapy sessions when his calm presence can support a client’s treatment goals. For some individuals—particularly those learning to feel more comfortable around dogs—his patient, friendly nature helps transform fear into confidence through carefully planned, positive experiences. When he isn’t helping in therapy, Moby also spends time comforting children during vaccinations at a local pediatric practice. Watching him patiently earn the trust of frightened children has been a wonderful reminder that healing often begins with feeling safe.

One of the things I admire most about Moby is that he never rushes anyone. He simply meets people where they are, offering patience, warmth, and quiet encouragement. In many ways, that’s how I believe therapy works, too. Because every client is unique, Moby participates only when it is clinically appropriate and always by invitation, with a client’s prior knowledge and consent.
