About Dr. Valdés

Hello and welcome! I’m Lourdes Valdés, a licensed psychologist specializing in anxiety with nearly 30 years of experience. While my primary focus is helping children and adolescents overcome anxiety, I also love working with adults. My passion is guiding clients toward a more peaceful and confident life. I use both behavioral and cognitive strategies that are backed by solid research and delivered with warmth, empathy, and respect. Along with anxiety, I treat a range of issues—including OCD, phobias, ADHD, feeding challenges (in young children), elimination disorders, and autism spectrum disorders—always aiming to address the concerns you’re facing right now.

Families often discover healthier, more positive ways to interact and support each other through my active and compassionate approach. Over the years, I’ve led social skills groups for school-aged children and middle schoolers, and I’m certified in the UCLA PEERS® program. I’m also trained in SPACE® (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), an innovative, family-focused program for managing child anxiety. This past year, I trained in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy®), an evidence-based method that offers rapid relief from the effects of trauma, anxiety, and other struggles. I have received specialized training in pediatric psychology and I’m equally fluent in English and Spanish.

I’m deeply committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and identities. I do not support or engage in conversion therapy; it is harmful and lacks scientific foundation. Here, you are always welcome, just as you are.

In addition to being a licensed psychologist in Texas, I have an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT). This allows me to offer telehealth services in many other PSYPACT® participating states. You can check my current APIT status at verifypsypact.org and see the map of participating states for the latest updates.

I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, followed by postdoctoral training in pediatric psychology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. My graduate research focused on children’s behavior disorders, correlates of postpartum depression, and toddlers’ development of self. I stay connected to my colleagues and current research through my memberships in the American Psychological Association, the Society of Pediatric Psychology, the Texas Psychological Association, the Houston Psychological Association, and the Houston Group Psychotherapy Society. I’m also proud to serve on the professional advisory board of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association Southern Region (ADDA-SR), supporting individuals affected by ADHD.

I personally manage every aspect of my practice, responding to phone calls and emails in a timely manner. If you’re ready to take the next step, I’m here to support you with warmth, expertise, and compassion every step of the way. I look forward to helping you or your loved ones navigate life’s challenges and move toward a brighter, more empowered future.
